Dr Russell Franks

Dr Franks is a Cardiologist in Oxford with subspecialty expertise in valvular heart disease and advanced cardiac imaging. He has extensive experience diagnosing and managing complex valve conditions. Dr Franks holds his private and NHS practice in Oxford at The John Radcliffe Hospital, where he is the clinical lead for echocardiography, and a integral member of the Structural Heart team, diagnosing and treating patients with structural and valvular heart disease. Dr Franks has a particular interest and expertise in minimally invasive (keyhole) valve procedures, including mitral edge to edge repair (Mitraclip), tricuspid edge-to-edge repair (TriClip), transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI), and transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement. He also has advanced expertise across a full range of cardiac imaging, including transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE), stress echocardiography, cardiac CT and cardiac MRI.

Dr Franks graduated with honours from the University of Manchester Medical School in 2009 and later completed a PhD in cardiac imaging at King’s College London. He undertook his specialist cardiology training in London, based at the internationally renowned Hammersmith Hospital.

Dr Franks established The Oxford Valve Clinic to provide world-class care in a setting dedicated exclusively to the expert diagnosis, management, and treatment of patients with heart valve disease. His vision is to offer patients access to the highest level of subspecialty care, ensuring accurate diagnosis, personalised management, and timely access to the most appropriate surgical or interventional expertise.
